Thursday's Thrifty Tip : eBay for unique pieces

This week I have been very busy (hence the lack of posts) and am still very very busy so this post is actually featuring photos from a long time ago..

This isn't even just a post on ebay in general (that will come another week) because I haven't had time to take photos of things I have found over the years, it's really just one purchase in particular. My formal dress I wore to my sixth year formal.

I didn't want to wear a dress the same as anyone else or a dress that just wasn't my style and had my heart set on a vintage beauty.. obviously with the budget of a school student without a job, I thought that woud never happen... Then I thought to have a good hunt on eBay and oh boy did I find a beauty!
And for £11?! Who could argue?!

I look a little weird in this photo but it is the only full length one of me by myself.

I loved that my tattoo was on full show and added to the retro feel I wanted.

I went all out on the hair and got it done in a vintage style parlour and I think it looked incredible, and very different to everyone else's that night (VERY different). It didn't actually cost too much either (around £25 - £30) and seeing as my dress was so cheap I thought I'd get it done (I did my makeup myself because I didn't see the point in getting someone else to do it when I could do it just as well)

These photos are from the night of the formal, which was quite a while ago.. The dress is silver lurex and someone has added a hand made leaf design to the bust.. When I took out out of the parcel I have to admit I was scared and thought it would look terrible, but when I put it on I fell in love with it :)

So my advice is, if you have a big event coming up and want to wear something unique and don't have a big budget (or even if you want to save some pennies), try eBay! And remember, if it isn't perfect, you can have it altered or add your own special handmade touches to it :)

  1. Wow wow wow - love the dress! Can't believe it only cost you £11! And I was going to ask you how you did your hair so perfectly vintage, haha, it suits you so much though. I feel like I used to have a brooch very similar to your earrings as well :)

I'm a fan of your whole look - may have to twitter about this! x
